Choice Feeding Experiments with Growing Pigs

چکیده
The amino acid requirements of growing animals are predicted to change with time, due to changes in the requirements for maintenance and for growth. Because food intake also changes with time, the question of optimising the dietary concentrations of a m i n o a c i d s d u r i n g t he g rowing period of animals is difficult to rcsolvc w i t h o u t resorting to computer mod&. Even such models cannot always accurately predict changes in day-to-day variations in temperature, gcnotypc, sex, food consumption, etc. As alternatives to a single feed system, where no account is taken o f t h e s e c h a n g i n g requirements, the possibility exists of altering the proportion of protein in the feed as the growing period proceeds, a system known as phase feeding; or of allowing growing animals free access to two feeds varying in protein concentration. This latter system, choice feeding, has been found to be successful with chickens and rats, and the ser ies of experiments reported here indicates that pigs, too, have the ability to differentiate between two feeds differing not only in protein content, but also in energy content.

Effect of Oral and Intramuscular Administration of Ivermectin in Guinea Pigs on Survival of Blood-feeding Anopheles stephensi under Insectary Conditions
Background and purpose: Insecticide resistance in mosquitoes particularly malaia may lead to reemergence of malaria epidemics. This study aimed to investigate the effect of oral and intramuscular administration of ivermectin on guinea pigs exposed to Anopheles stephensi mosquitoes, the main malaria vector. Materials and methods: The effect of ivermectin was studied in oral and intramuscular ad...
متن کاملThe effect of frequency of feeding on the response by growing pigs to supplements of free lysine.
1. Six experiments, involving a total of 320 pigs, were conducted to examine the response of growing pigs to diets supplemented with free lysine when fed either once daily or in six equal portions at intervals of 3 h. The effect of dry or wet feeding on the response to free lysine was examined in Expt nos. 4 and 5. The assumption of linear lysine response over the range of lysine supplementatio...

Experiments were conducted with growing and finishing swine to evaluate the effectiveness of various amino acid additions to low-protein corn-soybean meal diets. Two feeding experiments were conducted with growing swine each including a 16% protein positive control diet. In the first, a 14% protein diet served as the negative control while in the second trial it was a 12% protein diet. Amino ac...
متن کاملTrichinella britovi as a risk factor for alternative pig production systems in Greece and Europe
Trichinellosis is an important zoonosis and the most common source of human infection is meat from pigs and wild boars. The European Union (EU) supports alternative pig production systems (organic and free-ranging) as sustainable farming systems. However, these systems that allow outdoor access for farm animals, may create new or reintroduce old risks to public health. During the last years, al...

Four experiments were conducted to investigate the feeding value of South Dakota-grown field peas (Pisum sativum L.) for growing pigs. In Exp. 1, 96 pigs (initial BW = 22 ± 3.35 kg) were allotted to four treatment groups (four pigs per pen, six replicate pens per treatment) and fed growing (0.95% Lys) and finishing (0.68% Lys) diets containing 0, 12, 24, or 36% field peas (as-fed basis). There ...
